Eleazareli Maycock facing federal charge for allegedly removing serial number from rifle

A Macomb County man is facing a federal charge for allegedly possessing a gun with its serial number removed. A Macomb County man accused of removing the serial number from his rifle was allegedly infatuated with mass shooters, including the Oxford High School shooter.

A criminal complaint was unsealed on June 17, alleging Eleazareli Maycock, 20, had purposely removed or altered the serial number on a firearm.

The investigation began in May when the FBI received information that Maycock allegedly made threatening statements on YouTube.

On May 22, authorities went to Maycock’s house in Macomb and interviewed him.

In the interview, he admitted to possessing a Savage Arms .11 caliber rifle.

Maycock showed the rifle to the authorities, who found that the gun’s serial number had been removed. He gave the gun to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

In an interview on June 9 at Maycock’s home, he said he bought the rifle at a Dunham’s Discount Sports store in Sterling Heights in February. He said the rifle was new when he purchased it.

Authorities noticed that the rifle’s serial number had been intentionally scratched off. Federal investigators determined the removal of the serial number was not accidental because it was placed in an area of the rifle that wouldn’t be damaged from normal wear and tear.

The rifle also had writing on the stock that read, “There is no God,” along with a star surrounded by a circle.

Federal authorities said the Oxford High School shooter said the same phrase, “There is no God,” in a video the night before the mass shooting in November 2021.

Federal authorities also said Maycock allegedly praised other mass shooters on his YouTube account, including the comment, “I will be the next Brenton Tarrant trust me.”

Maycock referred to the man who carried out a mass shooting at two mosques in New Zealand in 2019.

Maycock faces one federal charge of receipt or possession of a firearm with a removed, obliterated or altered serial number.
