Pierogi Festival celebrates Polish heritage near Detroit’s Eastern Market

The event offers visitors a chance to enjoy traditional pierogis while celebrating the area’s Polish heritage

DETROIT – Pierogis were on the menu near Detroit’s Eastern Market as the Sweetest Heart of Mary Church hosted its annual Pierogi Festival.

The festival, which took place Friday (Aug. 7) night, celebrates a food with deep roots in Detroit’s Polish community.

Polish immigrants brought pierogis to the city as they came to work in Detroit’s auto factories.

The event offers visitors a chance to enjoy traditional pierogis while celebrating the area’s Polish heritage and history.

The festival continues through Sunday, giving those who missed Friday night’s festivities another opportunity to attend.

The event also comes as Metro Detroit enjoys a stretch of summer weather, making for a pleasant evening outdoors.
