Attorney explains legal challenges in Detroit Lions CB Terrion Arnold’s robbery, kidnapping case

Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold made his first court appearance Thursday in Florida after being charged in an armed robbery and kidnapping case, prompting legal analysis about the allegations and what prosecutors must prove.

Arnold appeared before a judge wearing a suicide prevention vest.

He is accused of coordinating and directing an armed robbery and kidnapping involving several victims in what prosecutors allege was retaliation for a theft at his rental property.

Construction begins on Brennan Recreation Center in Detroit’s Rouge Park

Detroit’s Cody Rouge neighborhood will soon have a new hub for youth recreation, education and community engagement as construction kicked off this week on the Brennan Community Center at Rouge Park.

Community members gathered with local dignitaries and project stakeholders on Thursday to celebrate the latest phase of the project, with construction expected to conclude by the fall of next year.

Preliminary exam continues in Royal Oak nanny murder case

Royal Oak nanny Samantha Booth, accused of fatally stabbing a child’s grandfather while allegedly under the influence of psychedelic mushrooms, appeared in court Thursday as prosecutors presented graphic testimony about the victim’s injuries during a preliminary examination.

The hearing focused on the death of David Ong, 83, who investigators say was killed Oct. 24, 2025, inside a Royal Oak home where the suspect had been caring for his 2-year-old granddaughter. Ong suffered more than 40 penetrating wounds to his head and face, along with additional injuries to his chest, back, hands, and forearms, according to the medical examiner.

The preliminary examination is scheduled to continue on Friday.

Washington Township residents demand transparency after data center emails exposed

Residents have been voicing outrage in Washington Township over what they call a lack of transparency.

The reaction comes after emails show the township was in talks with a data center developer about what would need to happen for the project to become reality -- and how “excited” the township supervisor was about the project.

The conversations were happening behind the publics back, and the residents who exposed those emails say they show unethical behavior.

Weather: Clouds Friday, seasonal weekend before dangerous heat arrives next week

Expect more clouds than sunshine today, with afternoon highs reaching the mid-70s. Most of Southeast Michigan will stay dry through the day, although a few showers could develop this evening through tonight, mainly along and south of I-94.

The weekend looks fantastic if you have outdoor plans. Dry weather returns with a good deal of sunshine both Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will climb back to around 80 degrees each afternoon, right where they should be for late June making for great pool days.
