Expect more clouds than sunshine today, with afternoon highs reaching the mid-70s. Most of Southeast Michigan will stay dry through the day, although a few showers could develop this evening through tonight, mainly along and south of I-94.
The weekend looks fantastic if you have outdoor plans. Dry weather returns with a good deal of sunshine both Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will climb back to around 80 degrees each afternoon, right where they should be for late June making for great pool days.
Attention then turns to what is shaping up to be the hottest stretch of weather so far this year. Very hot and humid conditions are expected to develop early next week and persist through at least Thursday. Heat index values could soar above 100 degrees, especially Tuesday through Thursday, bringing a major to extreme heat risk across Southeast Michigan. In addition to the dangerous heat, there will also be opportunities for showers and thunderstorms during the week. Now is the time to prepare for the prolonged stretch of dangerous temperatures. Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, check on vulnerable family members and neighbors, and make plans to spend time in air-conditioned spaces or cool off at a splash pad, pool, or lake if possible.
