DETROIT – A 48-year-old Uber driver and a passenger were hospitalized after the driver lost consciousness and crashed into a parked car and two garages.
The crash occurred on Thursday (June 25) around 12:20 p.m. in the area of Margareta Street and Grandville Avenue.
According to police, the driver had just picked up a passenger and was attempting to drop the passenger off when he lost consciousness.
Officials said the driver’s foot pressed the accelerator, causing the vehicle to speed forward uncontrollably.
Police said the vehicle struck a parked car before crashing through two garages.
Officials said both the driver and the passenger suffered injuries and were transported to a Metro Detroit hospital.
Police did not immediately release the extent of their injuries or the cause of the medical emergency.
The crash remains under investigation.
