MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A 44-year-old Sanilac County man has been charged with felonious assault after prosecutors say he injured a bail bond agent while attempting to flee from agents trying to take him into custody at a Roseville gas station.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that Aaron Hildreth of Lexington was arraigned Monday (June 22) in 39th District Court on one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, commonly known as felonious assault, and was also charged as a fourth-offense habitual offender.
The charges stem from an incident on June 18 at a Marathon gas station near Gratiot Avenue and 12 Mile Road.
According to prosecutors, bail bond agents attempted to take Hildreth into custody after he allegedly failed to comply with the conditions of his bond.
Authorities allege Hildreth tried to flee in his vehicle and struck an agent’s vehicle as the agent was getting out.
Prosecutors said the impact pinned the agent between the two vehicles and the open door of the agent’s vehicle.
Hildreth is also accused of striking the vehicle a second time.
Authorities said another bail bond agent then broke the driver’s side window of Hildreth’s vehicle and discharged a firearm. Hildreth was struck in the arm.
The prosecutor’s office said the assault with a dangerous weapon charge carries a maximum penalty of four years in prison.
The habitual offender notice is a sentencing enhancement, not a separate criminal offense.
Prosecutors said the charges represent the maximum offenses supported by the evidence available at this stage of the case.
Hildreth’s bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety. If released, he must wear a GPS tether.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for July 1 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Kathleen E. Tocco in 39th District Court.
