DETROIT – It was an electric atmosphere Wednesday night at Campus Martius.
Even with the near-record heat, it didn’t stop the watch party for Team USA in their 2-0 victory over Bosnia in the round of 32 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The event was organized by Detroit City F.C., and even in the brutal heat, supporters started piling in around 6 p.m.
Some men showed up shirtless, and there were plenty of supporters with their own bottles of water.
By the time the game started two hours later, the temperature was still 96 degrees.
And, not everyone here was clad in the stars and stripes. A number of people here were also supporting their native Bosnia, which was playing in its first-ever knockout stage.
The Americans got goals from Folarin Balogun and Malik Tillman to advance in the knockout stage for the first time since defeating South Korea in 2002.
The U.S. will face Belgium, which defeated Senegal on Monday (July 6), in the round of 16 at 8 p.m.
Detroit City FC will host another watch party at Campus Martius for that match as well.
