DETROIT – Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield signed an executive order directing the city to prepare for extreme heat.
The order, signed on Wednesday (July 1), directs all city departments to take the necessary steps to protect Detroit residents and workers during periods of extreme heat, defined as a two- to three-day span with temperatures of 90 degrees or higher.
The order focuses on the city’s vulnerable populations, including seniors and people living on the streets.
It also halts water shutoffs during periods of extreme heat.
