Dear Neighbor,
I know this is not the way anyone wanted to spend the holiday weekend. I’m sorry for the disruption, frustration and inconvenience these extended power outages have caused for you and your family.
Friday evening’s severe storms brought wind gusts of more than 60 mph, causing significant damage across our service area. Trees and limbs came down onto power lines, poles and other equipment, creating widespread outages and challenging repair work for our crews.
Today, more than 2,000 team members from DTE and across the country are in the field working around the clock to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. We expect 85% to 90% of customers impacted from Friday’s storm to be restored by the end of today, Sunday, July 5.
As crews arrive in neighborhoods and uncover additional damage, some restoration estimates may change. In many cases, crews must first make the area safe, clear debris, assess the full extent of the damage and complete multiple repairs before power can be restored. We will continue sharing updates as quickly as possible. For the latest outage information and estimated restoration times, please visit the DTE Outage Map.
Safety is our top priority:
- Stay at least 25 feet away from all power lines and anything they’re in contact with. They are extremely dangerous. Treat every downed power line as if it were energized.
- DO NOT CROSS YELLOW CAUTION TAPE. Caution tape indicates there is a downed power line in the area.
- Never use a portable generator inside your home or business. Generators emit carbon monoxide, which can be deadly. Keep them outside, away from windows and doors.
Thank you for your patience. I know that does not make being without power easier, especially during a holiday weekend, but I want you to know our teams are fully focused on restoring every customer as safely and quickly as we can.
Sincerely,
Matt Paul, president and COO, DTE Electric
