New bill for affordable housing in Michigan -- Here’s how the state will help

The bill is heading to Governor Whitmer

Michigan legislature is working to pass a new law to help build more affordable housing across the state.

The law plans to add state funding on top of a federal program for affordable projects.

Homes built with funds from the proposed law will have guaranteed affordable rent for at least 30 years.

Now the bill is heading to Governor Whitmer, who is expected to sign it.

Senator Jeff Irwin of Ann Arbor joined Local 4 Live to talk about the bill.
