DETROIT – A firefighter suffered a minor injury while battling a large fire at a vacant apartment complex on Detroit’s west side.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (July 7) on Fenton Street, just off Grand River Avenue near Telegraph Road.

The Detroit Fire Department said the firefighter was injured during overhaul operations and was transported to a Metro Detroit hospital as a precaution.

No other injuries were reported.

Officials said the fire was under control, though crews remained at the scene to continue cleanup and monitor the building.

The cause of the fire has not been revealed.

It was not immediately clear how long firefighters would remain at the location.

The investigation into the fire is ongoing.
