TAYLOR, Mich. – Police have released new photos that they say show the moments before four Taylor police officers shot a man wanted in connection with an alleged robbery in Ohio earlier this week.
The shooting occurred on Monday (July 6) in the parking lot of a Sheetz gas station on Eureka Road.
According to Taylor police, officers were alerted to a stolen U-Haul truck after a license plate reader identified the vehicle.
Investigators said the 38-year-old driver was wanted in connection with an alleged robbery in Cleveland.
Police said officers attempted to stop the driver, who refused to get out of the vehicle and instead backed the U-Haul into a patrol car.
Officials said newly released images appear to show the suspect opening the driver’s side door and pointing a handgun toward officers.
Police said four officers then fired their weapons, striking the man.
Officials said a handgun was recovered from the driver’s side floorboard of the U-Haul.
The suspect was taken to a hospital. Police have not released an update on his condition.
As is standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting, the four officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
