WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A 19-year-old Detroit man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a Redford man last month, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced.
Mario Carl Melvin Neal is accused in the June 7 killing of 23-year-old Kemajai Darden.

According to prosecutors, Detroit police responded at about 3:25 a.m. to a reported shooting at a home in the 8700 block of Quincy Street.
Police said they found Darden unresponsive in the dining room of the residence with multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders pronounced Darden dead at the scene.
Prosecutors allege Neal produced a rifle and fired multiple shots at Darden before fleeing.
Detroit police identified Neal as a suspect during the investigation and arrested him on July 17, 2026.
Neal has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of felony firearm, a charge alleging possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
He was arraigned Monday, July 20, 2026, in 36th District Court and was ordered held in jail.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for July 29 at 8:30 a.m. A preliminary examination is set for Aug. 5 at 1:45 p.m.
