OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A person of interest is in custody after a hit-and-run crash that critically injured a juvenile pedestrian in Oakland County.
The crash occurred on Sunday (July 19) at about 11:17 p.m. on westbound 8 Mile Road, east of Wyoming Avenue in Royal Oak Township.

Police said the child was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene while continuing west on 8 Mile Road.
The juvenile was taken to a Metro Detroit hospital, where the child remains hospitalized and is continuing to receive treatment.
Michigan State Police announced on July 20, 2026, that investigators have since taken a person of interest into custody at the Metro North Post.
Officials said they also seized a vehicle believed to have been involved in the crash.
Police have not released the identity of the person of interest or announced any charges.
