Gladwin officials warning residents after lightning strike damages water treatment plant

Gladwin – City officials in Gladwin, Mich., are asking residents to temporarily avoid using bathrooms and other plumbing fixtures on Tuesday after an apparent lightning strike disrupted operations at the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

Officials say the city’s emergency manager is enroute to assess the damage from last night’s storm, which has led to the treatment plant “not operating properly.”

No other details were given about the extent of the damage or how long residents should refrain from using plumbing, including toilets, sinks, showers and any other wastewater sources that could result in sewage backups.
