Gladwin officials warn against wastewater use after lightning strike damages treatment plant
City officials in Gladwin, Mich., are asking residents to temporarily avoid using bathrooms and other plumbing fixtures on Tuesday after an apparent lightning strike disrupted operations at the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
Officials say the city’s emergency manager is enroute to assess the damage from last night’s storm, which has led to the treatment plant “not operating properly.”
Man charged for alleged scheme that defrauded Troy resident of over $100K
A 32-year-old man is facing fraud charges after police say he stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from a Troy resident through an investment scheme.
The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office charged Yanling Xie, 32, with on count of false pretenses with intent to defraud $100,000 or more for his alleged involvement in the online scam, which involved soliciting for investments in U.S. and Chinese stocks via a messaging group.

Full lineup, new stage setup announced for 2026 Detroit Jazz Fest
Detroit Jazz Fest organizers unveiled the 2026 festival’s full lineup on Monday, along with a new downtown footprint surrounding Hart Plaza.
The four-day festival, taking place this year from Sept. 4-7, is the world’s largest free jazz festival, drawing more than 300,000 music fans to the city over Labor Day weekend each year — with approximately 26% of attendees coming from out of state.
