MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Two teens who were charged in connection with the shooting that happened during the Mall at Partridge Creek’s tree lighting ceremony, which injured a 17-year-old, were bound over to circuit court.
The shooting happened near the MJR theater on Nov. 23, 2025, while many families were attending the mall’s tree lighting event and moviegoers were inside the theater.
According to authorities, gunfire erupted, causing panic as people ran to their vehicles in the parking lot, while others stayed inside the mall for safety.
A 17-year-old from Mount Clemens was shot four times and is said to be lucky to be alive after six surgeries.
About three months after the shooting, two 16-year-old suspects were arrested in connection with the shooting. King Payne and Christian Griffin were charged with assault with intent to murder as adults.
Terrence Janell Brown, 18, was charged in March. He faces a charge of accessory after the fact to a felony.
Griffin’s charges were dismissed on July 31, according to court records.
Payne and Brown appeared in court for a preliminary examination, where a judge reviewed the evidence from prosecutors to determine if there’s enough evidence to move the case to trial.
Payne and Brown were bound over to circuit court on July 31, where they could face trial. They are scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 24 at 1:30 p.m.
