OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A New Jersey man is facing charges after allegedly swindling an Auburn Hills woman out of several hundred thousand dollars on a dating site.
Faizan Ali Syed, 37, was charged with two counts of fraud, four counts of false pretenses of $20,000 or more, and one count of false pretenses of less than $20,000 but more than $999.
According to Auburn Hills police, Syed conned a 70-year-old woman he met on a dating site into sending him several hundred thousand dollars over several months.
The woman went to Auburn Hills police to report the alleged fraud. Police were able to recover a small portion of the money for the woman.
Syed was arrested on Aug. 3 and was arraigned in court. He was given an $845,000 bond and is required to wear a tether upon release.
