Person of interest in fatal shooting on Detroit’s east side in custody

Police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the identity of the victim

DETROIT – A person of interest connected to a fatal shooting on Detroit’s east side is in custody, police said.

The Detroit Police Department had asked the public for help identifying the person of interest in connection with the Aug. 3 killing.

The shooting happened at about 11:50 p.m. near Burns and Goethe streets, according to police.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was fatally shot after he and the person of interest were seen together, police said.

Detroit police have not released the victim’s identity or additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Police previously offered a $5,000 reward for information that helped advance the investigation.
