DETROIT – A familiar red-and-blue superhero has been making appearances across Metro Detroit — and not for a movie. Videos of the “Spider-Man of Metro Detroit” have gone viral on TikTok, showing him handing out supplies and connecting with people experiencing homelessness.
His first public appearance in costume was at a local protest on March 23, 2025. Nearly a year later, on March 9, 2026, he began homeless outreach patrols.
He says he initially worried people would be uncomfortable with a masked stranger, but the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
“The classic Spider-Man look is very disarming and friendly to most everyone,” he said, adding that many people have told him his outreach has inspired them to help others.
His motivation came from two lifelong passions: Spider-Man and serving his community.
Seeing people struggling on the streets often left him feeling powerless. After getting into cosplay, he discovered the Real Life Superheroes (RLSH) community, including figures like Batman of San Jose and Crimson Fist of the Bay Area Superheroes, who showed him he could combine his love of comics with meaningful community service.
“This was something I could do to merge my love of comics and cosplay with the desire to help people in my community,” he said.
While the viral videos introduced many people to Metro Detroit’s Spider-Man, he hopes the focus stays on helping those in need—one outreach patrol at a time.
