Gas prices across Michigan have dropped 21 cents since last week, bringing the average cost statewide to $4.15 per gallon for regular unleaded.
“Michigan motorists are getting some relief at the pump, as the statewide average posts a double-digit drop,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for AAA-The Auto Club Group.
Motorists are now paying roughly $62 for a full 15-gallon tank of gas, an increase of around $11 from the highest price reported last August, according to AAA.
In Metro Detroit, drivers are paying around $4.19 per gallon — about 15 cents less than last week’s average — but still about 98 cents more than this time last year.
The most expensive averages reported by AAA were in Ann Arbor ($4.27), Metro Detroit ($4.19), and Traverse City ($4.19), with the least expensive averages reported in Marquette ($3.97), Grand Rapids ($4.03), and Flint ($4.10).
Domestic gasoline supply decreased from 211.3 million barrels to 209.7 million, according to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), while gasoline demand decreased from 9.04 million to 9.03 million. Gasoline production also decreased last week, averaging 9.6 million barrels per day.
