Police said the East Lansing police chief and an employee at MSU received letters that police believe are from the same person.

Police said the threats weren't aimed at specific teams or players, but with the biggest athletic event of the season coming this weekend, police are warning attendees.

"If they do choose to go, which we hope they do and enjoy their time, that they do exactly like I said before, stay vigilant, stay aware of their surroundings and if they see something that doesn't fit, let us know," East Lansing police Lt. Chad Connelly said.

Police do not know if the threats are real, but security teams train regularly to be prepared for situations such as potential threats.

MSU police said the University of Michigan has not requested resources from the department. U-M has contacted state and federal agencies for help ahead of the football game.

Also, Michigan Stadium has a world-class camera system.

Still, fans are urged to keep their eyes open for anything that may look suspicious or could pose a threat.

Meanwhile, police are analyzing the letters as they try to find out who sent them.
