Meijer store approved despite Flat Rock neighbor concerns

Store would include a gas station

FLAT ROCK, MI –  A Meijer grocery store and fuel center got preliminary approval last night after City Council heard from concerned neighbors and store representatives Monday night.

"It would just be a terrible big eyesore," said one of the neighbors, about the store at the corner of Telegraph and Vreeland.

Neighbors packed the council meeting to voice concerns about traffic, bright lights, and the mess construction will bring.

Other neighbors want the store and jobs it would bring. They say there are few grocery options in town.

Meijer estimates it would generate between $250,000 and $300,000 in annual tax revenue for the city.
