Rapper Doughboy Roc murdered on Detroit's west side

Rodney Yeargin found dead with multiple gunshot wounds inside vehicle

DETROIT – Popular rap artist Doughboy Roc was murdered Monday in a shooting on Detroit's west side, police said.

Rodney Yeargin, the Detroit rapper known for showcasing his city in songs and music videos, was fatally shot around 3:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

Police are still searching for the person who shot Yeargin while he was sitting in his car.

Officers said Yeargin was shot multiple times.

"I can't believe I'm talking about it, because it has destroyed us," said Tarence Goudy, Yeargin's uncle. "It literally is destroying us. He can't be replaced."

To his fans he was known as Doughboy Roc, part of the group Doughboyz Cashout. His family said in 2013, the rapper signed to Young Jeezy's label, and his fan base quickly grew.

"He loved Detroit," Goudy said. "He loved the people. He loved even being around young fans, and not just the fans, but people. That's just who he was."

Born and raised in Brightmore, Yeargin was especially close to his family. He had one son, who is named after him.

"He always talked about family," Goudy said. "Each album he had, family was in it. He loved his son, and he always said, 'I do it for me son.'"

Detroit police officers found his body inside a white Hyundai near Stoepell Street and Westfield Avenue.

As word on the street spread, hundreds of people showed up at the scene. Many more wrote condolences on social media.

"Senseless killings have to stop," Goudy said. "It has to stop. Lives are too valuable. I need answers. I have to know."
