Family searching for answers in 2005 Waterford double homicide

Kenneth Kanehl, Pamela Barnes, found dead in home

WATERFORD, Mich. – A double homicide from 2005 in Waterford remains unsolved, and family members continue to search for answers.

Kenneth Kanehl, Jr., 39, and Pamela Barnes, 41, were found in their home 5400 block of Brunswick Boulevard on July 6, 2005. They had been shot in their sleep.

Police say they likely knew the killer and were targeted.

Family members say nothing was stolen from the home and there was no forced entry.

Police said they found a person of interest soon after the slaying, but could never get enough evidence for search warrants.

Family members say both Kanehl and Barnes had been in volatile relationships in the past and believe the killer was a former partner.

Kanehl has a daughter who was 15 years old at the time of the incident. Barnes has a daughter who was 13.

Crime Stoppers of Michigan and Michigan Legacy Credit Union are offering a reward of up to $3,250 for information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
