Suspect used screwdriver to rob gas station in Troy, police say

Shaun Benns also being investigated for other area robberies

TROY, Mich. – A 38-year-old used a screwdriver to rob a gas station in Troy last weekend and left a trail of money as he fled, police said. 

Shaun Benns, of Pontiac, was charged with armed robbery after the incident Sunday at a Clark gas station on Rochester Road.

Police said Benns threatened the clerk with a screwdriver while demanding money. He got away with an undisclosed amount of money, but police said officers found him driving on University Drive near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Auburn Hills. After a short police chase, and a trail of money left by Benns, he was taken into custody, police said. 

He is also being investigated as a suspect in several other area armed robberies, police said.
