2 rescued from downtown Detroit apartment fire

Two people were saved from an apartment fire in downtown Detroit Thursday night.

Michael Nevin, the president of the Detroit Firefighter’s Association, said the elevators were out of order and firefighters were wearing 150 pounds of gear when they responded to a fire at the Washington Boulevard apartments.

During search and rescue efforts, firefighters found an unconscious man and administered CPR before carrying him down 15 flights of stairs.

Nevin said the man was responding well after CPR and was treated at a hospital. A woman suffering from cardiac arrest was also rescued from the apartments.

More than six fire engines and ladder companies worked with emergency medical services to rescue the victims, according to authorities.
