Woman accused of driving on drugs, causing chain crash in Hazel Park that ends in crash

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – A woman stands accused of driving under the influence of drugs and causing a chain reaction crash in Hazel Park that ended with an SUV being pushed into a building.

Hazel Park police said witnesses on Monday morning reported an erratic driver in a Chrysler Pacifica on Nine Mile Road. The Pacifica hit the back of a Ford Focus, pushing the Focus into a Ford pickup truck. The Pacifica then continued on until it hit a Dodge Nitro, forcing it off the road and to slam into the lobby of the Hazel Park Adult Education Center.

A 59-year-old man who was working as a security guard inside the building and the 21-year-old driver of the Nitro were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Pacifica, 42-year-old Latanya Patrice Lloyd, of Warren, failed sobriety tests and police said they found prescription narcotics in her purse. Some were prescribed to her and others were not, police said.

She could face charges, including operating under the influence of drugs.

Lloyd is being held pending the authorization of charges.
