DETROIT – On the day of the Detroit Lions’ final game of the season against the Minnesota Vikings, kicker Matt Prater made NFL history with the most 50-plus yard field goals.

Prater’s record comes during his 59th career field goal on Sunday, passing former Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski’s 58 field goals.

Prater passed the standing record with a 54-yard field goal in the second quarter of Sunday’s game. On Dec. 20, he tied with Janikowski for the record, making a 58th field goal in the third quarter against the Tennessee Titans.

Prater is in his 14th season, joining the Lions as a free agent in 2014 after his time with the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons. He currently holds the NFL record with the longest field goal at 64 yards.
