One of the brightest rising prospects for the Detroit Tigers will miss the start of the season with a fractured foot.
Riley Greene, who was competing in Spring Training to make the Opening Day roster, left Friday’s game with a foot injury. The team confirmed on Saturday that Greene suffered a fracture. Luckily, he won’t need surgery, but is sure to miss a decent chunk of time.

Riley Greene has a fractured right foot. Injury won’t require surgery, but he’s in a boot and won’t be ready to open season, AJ Hinch said.
Greene, 21, is a consensus top 10 prospect in MLB and figured to be the starting center fielder for the Tigers on Opening Day, if healthy.
In 124 games between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo last year, Greene hit .301 with a .387 on-base percentage and .534 slugging percentage. He finished with 25 doubles, eight triples and 24 home runs.
A timetable for his return was not announced.
