OK, Detroit Lions’ blowout loss to Ravens doesn’t feel so bad anymore

DETROIT – A couple weeks ago, when the Detroit Lions got dismantled by the Baltimore Ravens, it felt like the kind of game that exposed a lot of weaknesses.

But it turns out the Ravens are just really freaking good.

When the Lions went to Baltimore, they allowed touchdowns on each of the first four defensive drives, gave up over 500 yards of offense, and ultimately lost 38-6.

For a Lions team that had won its previous four games by a combined 60 points, it was a very disappointing letdown. But then they took care of business against the Raiders on Monday Night Football and nobody cared about the Ravens game anymore.

The Lions were off this weekend, and one of the best games was Seahawks-Ravens. Well, it was supposed to be one of the best. The Ravens had absolutely no mercy once again, hammering Seattle 37-3 and putting up 515 total yards to Seattle’s 151.

Yikes. Those numbers make the Lions’ loss feel quite a bit more respectable.

With a win, the Seahawks would have taken sole possession of first place in the NFC West and vaulted the Lions in the standings due to the head-to-head tiebreaker. Instead, the Lions sit alone at No. 2 in the conference. Without even having to get off the couch.

The Ravens have had some weird games this season -- how in the world did that team lose to the Steelers and the Colts... and almost lose to the Cardinals? But when they actually show up, they’re one of the best teams in the NFL.

Baltimore was an ugly trip for the Lions, but clearly there’s no shame in having one off game against a team that strong.

Just ask the Seahawks.
