Jack Campbell signs long-term extension with Detroit Lions after fifth-year option declined

Campbell will be signed through 2030 after a breakout All-Pro season

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions and star linebacker Jack Campbell have agreed to a new contract extension after originally declining his fifth-year option.

Campbell broke the news himself on Thursday (May 21), saying on X, “What’s up, One Pride nation? I just want to let you guys know that I signed my extension to be back. I’m excited to be here long term. Now it’s time to go win a Super Bowl.”

The Lions exercised the fifth-year option on running back Jahmyr Gibbs but declined the option for the linebacker.

Gibbs’ option is valued at $14.29 million for the 2027 season.

Campbell’s option was projected at $21.925 million, a figure that would have ranked among the league’s highest salaries for off-ball linebackers.

The NFL posted on X that Campbell will be signed through the 2030 season.

National Insider for the NFL Network, Ian Rapoport, posted to X that the terms of the agreed extension will be four years without a fifth-year option.

Campbell’s original option was projected at $21.925 million, a figure that would have ranked among the league’s highest salaries for off-ball linebackers.

Campbell’s future still in focus

Campbell, 25, is coming off a standout 2025 season in which he earned first-team All-Pro honors and his first Pro Bowl selection.

He led the team with 176 total tackles while adding nine tackles for loss, five sacks, and four passes defended.
