CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Major renovations have been announced for the Canton Sports Center, including Kicker’s Bar and Grill, on Michigan Avenue in Canton Township.

The Canton Sports Center is a popular spot for recreational softball and baseball leagues, as well as national tournaments. It will receive significant renovations in early 2024.

The Victory Park area will receive a new LED lighting system to improve on-field visibility for all 12 softball fields, officials said. The lights will also reduce energy consumption.

That part of the project is scheduled to be completed by April 2024 for the start of the spring session.

A majority of the concrete sidewalks surrounding the facility have already been replaced. All of the sidewalks leading to the 12 softball fields are scheduled to be replaced in October 2024.

Kicker’s Bar and Grill -- the restaurant at the center of the softball fields -- got a dining room makeover, an updated paint scheme, and new booth cushions.

“All of these projects will deliver superior improvements to our premier facility, which hosts over 2,500 league and tourney teams from April to October each year,” said Abe Vinitski, Canton Park & Sports supervisor. “Every year, we draw local youth and senior participants along with national elite players to Canton as their destination for baseball, softball, cricket, lacrosse, and flag football. These dramatic improvements will help secure our ranking as one of the best sports facilities in Michigan.”
