Christina Burkhart grew up in Saline, where her family still resides. While living in Pennsylvania as a child, a tornado sent a pine tree through her home, sparking a lifelong fascination with weather. As she grew older, that interest was reinforced by a strong aptitude for math and science.
She graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Earth Science before earning a master’s degree in Geosciences from Mississippi State University. While in Mississippi, Burkhart completed the broadcast meteorology curriculum and wrote a thesis examining the relationship between weather patterns and mallard migration.
During her college years, Burkhart interned at WDIV alongside Chuck Gaidica and Paul Gross, where she discovered her passion for communicating weather to viewers. After spending several years in Traverse City and more than a decade in Flint, she is excited to return to WDIV in a full-circle moment. Her work has earned Michigan Association of Broadcasters, Associated Press, and Emmy awards, and she is committed to delivering forecasts viewers can trust.
Outside of work, Burkhart enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, exploring national parks, trying new taco spots, playing with her rescue cat, and being with friends and family. She is thrilled to be back home and looks forward to connecting with communities across the area.
