Martin, McDonald, Porter join stars in telethon for Ukraine
A roster of film, TV and theater all-stars — including Steve Martin, Annette Bening, Billy Porter, Audra McDonald, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Chenoweth, David Hyde Pierce and Rosie Perez — have signed up for a 10-hour telethon to raise money for the victims of the war in Ukraine.
‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’ sashays home with 10 Tony Awards
“The Inheritance” by Matthew Lopez was named the best new play, and Charles Fuller’s “A Soldier’s Play” won best play revival. The Musical” won for scenic design, costume, lighting, sound design, orchestrations and a featured acting Tony for Broadway favorite Danny Burstein. In a surprise to no one, Aaron Tveit won the award for best leading actor in a musical for “Moulin Rouge! She dedicated the win to three family members she lost while playing Turner — and thanked Turner herself. It won for best book, and Lauren Patten won the award for best featured actress in a musical.

'Jagged Little Pill' leads Tony Awards nominations with 15

The musical leads the Tony Awards nominations with 15 nods in a pandemic-shortened season. The dozen nods make “Slave Play” the most nominated play in Tony history. The nominations were pulled from just 18 eligible plays and musicals, a fraction of the 34 shows the season before. The 2020 Tony Awards ceremony will be broadcast digitally and take place later this year, at a date still to be announced.
