The official definition of a blizzard is based on a combination of low visibility and strong wind gusts. Kalamazoo is in and out of blizzard conditions now, and should have more consistent blizzard conditions through the afternoon. Manistee is flirting with blizzard conditions, but should get consistently into blizzard conditions this afternoon. The official blizzard conditions will expand over northern Lower Michigan as the next round of heavy snow moves through. The blizzard conditions will also pretty much take over the blizzard warned counties of southwest Lower Michigan.

MUNISING, MI - A combination of high winds, blowing lake effect snow and cold wind chills will lead to dangerous blizzard conditions in a portion of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The National Weather Service office in Marquette has issued a Blizzard Warning for two counties along Lake Superior. The NWS is advising that those in the Blizzard Warning area should only travel in an emergency. Gale Warnings are in effect for parts of Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Superior.
