Jenison Schools elementary closed temporarily after trace levels of asbestos-linked material found
JENISON, MI -- A Jenison Schools elementary is temporarily closed after work crews discovered traces of vermiculite, a material that can contain asbestos, at the building. Jenison Schools Superintendent Brandon Graham sent a letter to parents on Wednesday, Dec. 8 about the issue. He said workers with a construction contractor were at Sandy Hill Elementary, 1990 Baldwin St., in preparation for an upcoming improvement project. They discovered traces of vermiculite Wednesday during a routine process and notified school officials. Jenison Schools administrators say they immediately had the building’s air quality tested and found it to be safe.
