BRIDGEPORT TWP, MI — Following a police chase through several Saginaw County townships, an investigator talked a paroled murderer out of a potential “suicide by cop” situation. The incident began about 10:05 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, in the area of Moore and Sheridan roads in Bridgeport Township. Police learned the man had a large knife and was contemplating “suicide by cop,” according to Bridgeport Township Police Chief David Duffett. This incident is being reviewed by the Saginaw County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges. MLive is not naming the man as he has not been arraigned on charges related to his alleged Saginaw County offenses.

Both the barn and trailer were damaged. After crashing into the barn’s overhead door, the driver went inside the building and stole a laptop from within. Wagner (also known by the surnames Smith and Sumbera) had been employed at AIS Construction Equipment, 4600 Zelle Drive in Bridgeport Township, which rents out large equipment. Part of Wagner’s responsibilities involved handling checks written to the business and large amounts of cash, said Bridgeport Township Police Chief David Duffett. Between July 17 and Dec. 29 of 2020, Wagner deposited checks made out to AIS into her own bank account. Wagner is due back in court for a hearing at 11:20 a.m. on May 6.

Officers with the assistance of a Michigan State Police K9 team cleared the school and searched it. They found the threat was not credible and there was no bomb on the premises, said Police Chief David Duffett. They took the student into custody and lodged them at the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center pending formal charges.
