CARE TEAM

U-M’s Mott Children’s Hospital creates buttons of friendly faces for teams treating children

Mott Children's Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital now wear buttons with their faces on them to improve patient experience while masks remain a critical safety measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Mott Children’s Hospital can now safely see what their care team looks like. “Being at the hospital can be a scary and nerve-racking experience for children,” Luanne Thomas Ewald, chief operating officer at Mott and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital said in a statement. “We recognize that COVID precautions may make it difficult for some patients to recognize the people who are taking care of them. “Current restrictions are critical to keeping our hospital community safe but also limit some human interactions that show you care.

Cruise Passengers Remember Mom's Cry as Toddler Fell to Death on Ship

Cruise ship passengers are recalling the terrifying cry let out by the mother of a 19-month-old girl after the child fell 11 stories to the dock below. Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas was docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico, when the tragic accident happened Sunday. The toddler and her family were on the 11th floor pool deck enjoying sweeping views of San Juan. Witnesses said the mother's anguished cry did not compare to any other scream.Police investigating the incident were spotted examining the cruise ship window, which can be opened from the inside. The department asks the community to pray for the entire Wiegand family as they grieve, the police department said in a statement.

Indiana police officer's 1-year-old daughter dies in fall from Freedom of the Seas cruise ship

A girl apparently slipped from her grandfather's hands and fell to her death from the 11th story of a cruise ship docked in Puerto Rico, police said Monday. Ruszkowski disputed the statement issued by Puerto Rico police that the girl was being held out of a window. Owen Torres, Corporate Communications Manager for Royal Caribbean, told CBS News that the cruise operator was "deeply saddened by yesterday's tragic incident, and our hearts go out to the family." A Royal Caribbean spokeswoman said the ship departed Puerto Rico on Monday for St. Maarten on a new itinerary and declined further comment. It was beginning a seven-day cruise around the Caribbean islands and was next scheduled to dock at St. Maarten, a Dutch territory, later Monday morning.
