Veteran starter opts out of deal with Tigers
DETROIT -- Veteran starting pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez never got the call from Toledo to Detroit, so he’s off to hunt for another opportunity. Gonzalez made four starts with the Mud Hens since signing a minor-league deal in late July. When he signed, Gonzalez could see a credible pathway to another shot at the big leagues, given the Tigers’ injuries and diminishing rotation depth. But the Tigers opted to fill one vacancy with another veteran in Toledo, lefty Daniel Norris. Anderson, 34, was leading the Mud Hens in games started and innings pitched when he opted out of his deal with the Tigers in mid-July.
