Hopefully it will show people we can do this in fashion,” Siriano said of the growing reuse movement. “Honestly, I don't know," Siriano said, "because I love doing this but it's very hard to do in a pandemic.

Despite bleak 2020, celebrities make effort to brighten year

Truth is, people turned to culture of all kinds in 2020 — highbrow and lowbrow — to satisfy varied and sometimes conflicting needs: Distraction, inspiration, consolation, escapism, hope. Is there even a point to doing New York Fashion Week in 2020? “Ultimately fashion is a business, and Fashion Week is a platform for designers to do business,” says Steven Kolb, chief executive of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which organizes the semi-annual event. People are making DIY masks to fight coronavirus. But do they actually work?

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to engulf the United States, a national shortage of N95 masks and depleting stock of loose-fitting surgical masks has induced a creative solution: do-it-yourself versions. N95 masks are tight-fitting masks that filter out at least 95% of small and large airborne particles, according to the CDC. Many health care workers are being forced to ration their N95 masks and some who dont have access to N95 masks are resorting to surgical masks, otherwise known as facemasks. Yet, the CDC advises against health care professionals using these masks when treating coronavirus patients. The FDA does not have specifications for homemade masks, but the DIY masks many in the country are crafting are most like the loose-fitting surgical masks.
