Man sent to prison for ‘bizarre’ attempt to kidnap Michigan woman
WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI – A Massachusetts man was sentenced to nearly 11 years in prison Tuesday for a “bizarre and frightening” attempt to kidnap a former girlfriend with whom he hadn’t had contact for about 20 years, The Associated Press reports. In the vehicle, officers found handcuffs in a Louis Vuitton bag, brass knuckles, zip ties, a stun gun, duct tape, smoke grenades, a note to the victim and other kidnapping tools. Burke pleaded guilty to attempted kidnapping and was sentenced Tuesday to 128 months in prison, the release said. He also pleaded guilty to armed robbery related to the incident with the victim’s roommate; he was sentenced to 12-25 years. Defense attorney Richard O’Neill said Burke was a personal trainer and soccer coach before his arrest, AP reports.
