However, there was an increase in overdose deaths in 2018 among African Americans, Asian Americans, Latino Americans and Arab Americans, according to an analysis presented during last months Substance Use Disorders Oversight Policy Board meeting.
The analysis used data supplied by the Wayne County Office of the Medical Examiner.
African Americans had an increase of 4 percent in overdose deaths during the same period, while Latino Americans had an increase in deaths of more than 9 percent.
Midway through 2019 there were 491 drug overdose deaths in Wayne County, 52.8 percent of which occurred in Detroit, a report from WDET.org said.
In 2018, there were 915 deaths in Wayne County, with 54.3 percent of them occurring in Detroit.
