Wayne State plans Harwell Field to honor broadcaster
DETROIT – Wayne State University announced Thursday plans to build a baseball stadium in recognition of legendary Detroit Tigers broadcaster Ernie Harwell and his wife Lulu Harwell. The university's Department of Athletics plans to erect Harwell Field in the couple's shared honor. Harwell Field will provide grandstands, a press box, team clubhouse and a foyer to recognize the achievements and contributions of the Harwells. The initiative will be managed through the university's development unit and is endorsed by the Ernie Harwell Estate and the Ernie Harwell Foundation.
