Grammy Awards shift to March due to pandemic conditions

Los Angeles County, the epicenter of the crisis in California, has surpassed 11,000 COVID-19 deaths and has had 40% of the deaths in California. An average of six people die every hour from COVID-19 in Los Angeles County, which has a quarter of the stateโ€™s 40 million residents. The BET Awards was the first major awards show during the pandemic and was a success thanks to its artsy, highly produced, well-crafted pre-taped performances.

โ€œWe said to our team, โ€˜If anyone has anyone who knows anyone, just convey that we would love to do this,'" Finneas explained. And while in Texas for Austin City Limits for live shows, Finneas and Eilish wrote and recorded โ€œNo Time to Dieโ€ just in time to meet the deadline. Over a couple of days, we wrote the whole song and recorded the whole vocal and sent it in. Finneas and Eilish also picked up Grammy nominations for song and record of the year for โ€œEverything I Wanted,โ€ a song about their relationship as siblings and being there for one another. โ€œSo gratifying and wonderful and hard to articulate how meaningful it is to me,โ€ Finneas said of their nominations.

A winner of 24 Grammys, Beyoncรฉ becomes the second-most nominated act in the history of the awards show with 79 nominations. Beyoncรฉ is only behind her husband Jay-Z and Quincy Jones, who have both earned 80 nominations each. Jay-Z picked up three nominations this year for his contributions to Beyoncรฉโ€™s songs: He co-wrote โ€œBlack Paradeโ€ and โ€œSavage,โ€ thus earning nominations for song of the year, best R&B song and best rap song. Instead, multiple nominations went to Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Roddy Ricch, who each earned six nominations and followed Beyoncรฉ as the second-most nominated acts.
