Allen Park man charged in connection with property damage to Fort Street Bridge
DETROIT – Allen Park resident Miguel Gomez has been charged in connection with property damage to Fort Street Bridge in southwest Detroit. Original Story: Driver arrested after jumping over drawbridge on Detroit’s west sideOn Sept. 16 at around 7 p.m. Detroit police officers responded to a location in the 10500 block of West Fort Street and Miller Road. Officers went to the location after a call about hazardous conditions was made. Officers discovered a vehicle at rest on the western side of the Fort Street drawbridge over the Rouge River. Because the security gate was not fully lowered, the vehicle went airborne before landing on the other side of the bridge.
Driver arrested after jumping over drawbridge on Detroit’s west side
DETROIT – A driver was arrested Wednesday after jumping his car over a rising drawbridge on Detroit’s west side. “And I looked, I said, ‘No he ain’t,’” said drawbridge operator Andre Locke. Police said the driver is suspected of being under the influence from using “whippits.”Locke, who witnessed the incident, said he hit the emergency stop and the bridge jammed. “Over he went, blew out all four of his tires, and then he crashed into the other gate,” Locke said. A call from police described the incident as something from “Dukes of Hazzard.” Locke said he called it “The Blues Brothers.”“That’s a first for me,” Lock said.
