Shopping local this holiday season? This gift guide highlights Michigan-made treats
The 2022 Michigan Local Gift Guide, an online holiday market for local food and gift ideas, launched last week with the aim of connecting shoppers to Michigan-made gifts. The annual guide focuses on Michigan small food businesses and their holiday offerings. “The guide has become the place where I do my own personal holiday shopping,” says Tricia Phelps, Taste the Local Difference’s CEO. And for those who prefer to shop in person, the online market has a Shopping Guides tab that highlights local food businesses in seven specific regions across the state. The full Michigan Local Gift Guide can be found at michiganlocalgiftguide.com/gifts and more about Taste the Local Difference can be found at localdifference.org.mlive.com
Ann Arbor engineers with Toyota develop app to help parents install car seats safely
In 2019, Jennifer Pelky and Lindsay Babian were having lunch when they began talking about car seat safety. She called in the help of a colleague who was a certified child car seat specialist to install hers. Jennifer Pelky, Toyota principal engineer of vehicle performance development for interior safety, installs a car seat in the 2021 Sienna. Pharris, a mother of two and former marketing specialist for a leading car seat manufacturer, loved the idea. They can then select which seat they would like the car seat to be installed and enter the type of car seat they have.
