Former Trump casino where stars played goes out with a bang

The former Trump Plaza casino was imploded after falling into such disrepair that chunks of the building began peeling off and crashing to the ground. “I got chills,” Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small said. AdOpened in 1984, when Trump was a real estate developer in his pre-politics days, Trump Plaza was for a time the most successful casino in Atlantic City. AdBut things began to sour for Trump Plaza when Donald Trump opened the nearby Trump Taj Mahal in 1990, with crushing debt loads that led the company to pour most of its resources — and cash — into the shiny new hotel and casino. Trump Plaza was the last of four Atlantic City casinos to close in 2014, victims of an oversaturated casino market both in the New Jersey city and in the larger northeast.

Buck Rogers reboot gets a boost as George Clooney joins production

Back in October 2020, we reported that Legendary Entertainment was securing the screen rights to one of sci-fi's oldest and most underused characters, Buck Rogers and now the reboot/reimagining has attracted a significant Hollywood player, actor and director George Clooney. However, the Hollywood Reporter also says that insiders insist there is currently no acting deal in place, so we'll have to see what transpires. The last time Buck Rogers appeared on the small screen — not including reruns — was April 1981 when Gil Gerard took the titular role and Glen A. Larson produced the show. The estate contends that “the Buck Rogers interests” have already penned an agreement with David Ellison’s Skydance Productions to exploit the property. And Legendary is far from an amateur entertainment production company operating out of a garage.

Hollywoods awards season has gone virtual. Amal Clooney quits UK role over 'lamentable' Brexit plan

In a letter Friday to British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, the human rights lawyer said she is quitting her role as the U.K.’s special envoy on media freedom over the government’s “lamentable” suggestion. Clooney, who married movie star George Clooney in 2014, becomes the latest lawyer to resign over the planned legislation. Richard Keen, the British government’s law officer for Scotland, and the head of its legal department, Jonathan Jones, have also quit in the past couple of weeks. The British government has admitted that the legislation could potentially break international law, but argues that it’s an insurance policy for that potential ‘no-deal’ scenario. As a result, the two sides agreed there would be some kind of regulatory border between mainland Britain and Northern Ireland, an agreement that the planned legislation could breach.

Murad, Amal Clooney accuse leaders and UN of failing Yazidis

None of the pathways to a court have been studied, pursued, or seriously discussed at the United Nations, or by the Security Council, Clooney said. And Murad and Clooney said over 120,000 Yazidis who have returned to Sinjar desperately need health care, electricity, shelter, clean water, sanitation, education and opportunities to make a living. The international community must fulfill its promise to deliver justice for the Yazidi community. In addition, 57 nations are supporting a case brought by Gambia at the International Court of Justice under the Genocide Convention, and the International Criminal Court is investigating crimes in Myanmar, she said. Yazidi survivors deserve no less, Clooney said, stressing that government leaders, U.N. diplomats and all those with influence have a responsibility to respond.

It starred Van Dyke as a television comedy writer working for a demanding, eccentric boss (Reiner) and living with his wife (Mary Tyler Moore in her first major TV role) and young son in suburban New Rochelle, New York. The Van Dyke show is probably the most thrilling of my accomplishments because that was very, very personal, Reiner once said. Reiner is the father of actor-director Rob Reiner.

George Clooney's warning on South Sudan

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Actor George Clooney has called for action against multinationals, western tycoons and brokers who have profited from South Sudan's violent instability, warning policy makers that "if you don't care" what happens in South Sudan its problems "will end up on your doorstep." The Sentry report -- titled "The Taking of South Sudan" -- accuses "individuals and corporations from across the world" of taking advantage of the country's weak rule of law and corruption to enlarge their profits. One of its case studies alleges that the country's largest multinational petroleum consortium, Dar Petroleum Operating Company, funded militias in the oil-producing regions of South Sudan. CNN has independently verified these findings about Dar Petroleum, and has found evidence detailing the environmental and health impact of oil contamination in the Paloch and Adar regions. CNPS, Petronas and Dar Petroleum have yet to respond to CNN's request for comment.
