The Academy Awards in 2020 reached a record low 23.6 million viewers, and that was also pre-lockdown. ABC had 3.9 million, NBC had 3.4 million, Fox had 2.3 million, Univision had 1.4 million, Ion Television had 1.2 million and Telemundo had 1 million. AdFox News Channel topped the cable networks, averaging 2.46 million viewers in prime time. ABC's “World News Tonight" won the evening news ratings race, averaging 9.5 million viewers last week.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association said in statement Friday that an “action plan” is under development to admit Black members. Dakota Fanning, Susan Kelechi Watson and Tim Allen announced the nominees for the Jan. 5 show, which honors achievements in film and television. Robot”; Tobias Menzies, “The Crown”; Billy Porter, “Pose.”The nominees for best actor in a TV drama: Brian Cox, “Succession”; Kit Harington, “Game of Thrones”; Rami Malek, “Mr. “The Irishman” last week won best film from the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Board of Review. Tom Hanks, a possible nominee for his performance as Mister Rogers in “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

Look out Hollywood, Ricky Gervais is returning to host the Golden Globe Awards. Gervais memorably hosted the Globes from 2010 to 2012, skewering many of the attendees with irreverent jokes. It will be the fifth time Gervais emcees the ceremony; he also hosted in 2016. The 77th annual Golden Globe Awards, which honor achievements in film and television, will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Jan. 5 and aired live on NBC.
