Tigers trade for veteran catcher, add him to roster just before game time

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have acquired veteran catcher Dustin Garneau to help plug their temporary shortage of catching depth. The Tigers sent cash considerations to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for Garneau, 34, who was playing in Triple-A Albuquerque. To create roster spots for Garneau, outfielder Jacob Robson was optioned to Triple-A Toledo and catcher Jake Rogers was transferred to the 60-day injured list. In other moves on Wednesday, the Tigers activated infielder Isaac Paredes from the injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Toledo. The rookie outfielder will start for the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on Friday night, one day after his making his Major League debut on the road in Baltimore. But rather than sulk, Robson just hit, more than he has at any point in his professional career. The Detroit Tigers have now lost three outfielders to the injured list in less than 24 hours, and this time, they plan to call up a prospect as a replacement.

Niko Goodrum going back on IL; Tigers to call up rookie outfielder

BALTIMORE -- The Detroit Tigers will place utility man Niko Goodrum on the injured list after he strained his groin while rounding first base Wednesday night. Hinch said the club would select the contract of outfielder Jacob Robson from Triple-A Toledo to take Goodrum’s spot on the roster. The Tigers will also have to make a 40-man roster move to accommodate Robson. They will likely transfer pitcher Matthew Boyd to the 60-day injured list.
